What is AMC?

AMC (American Mathematics Competitions) is an international mathematics competition sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). Its full name is the American Mathematics Competition. As one of the most popular high school competitions in North America, the AMC attracts over 300,000 students to participate in the North American competition each year. It is one of the most prestigious mathematics competitions, drawing a large number of participants.

About AMC12

AMC 12 is an intermediate-level exam in the AMC series, designed to challenge students in grade 12 and below who have a passion for mathematics. High scorers on the AMC 12 are invited to take the more challenging American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). The AMC12 exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and takes 75 minutes to complete. The content covers the entire high school curriculum, including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but does not include calculus.

Versions A and B of AMC 12 have the same number of questions, the same scoring system, and the same administration rules. The only difference is the competition date; each version has a different set of questions, and the difficulty level and topic distribution of the two exams are the same.

In-person exam: Students who register through their registration center will go to the exam venue on their own to take the test.
Score Release: Exam scores can be checked 6–8 weeks after the exam.

Sudden change! As shown, the 2024 AMC10/12 cutoff scores have been adjusted in six places. According to the MAA committee's requirements, only the awards and advancement status of 12A candidates are affected; other students are unaffected.

AIME (American Invitational Mathematics Examination)

AIME is a 15-question, 3-hour exam in which each answer is an integer from 0 to 999. AIME is an intermediate exam between the AMC 10 or AMC 12 and the USAMO. All students who take the AMC 12 and score 100 or above out of 150, or rank in the top 5%, are invited to take the AIME.
